Extension Limitations
Section titled “Extension Limitations”The following are functions that VertiTab extension cannot implement due to browser limitations. Understanding these limitations will help you better use the extension and choose appropriate alternatives.
Adjusting Sidebar Minimum Width
Section titled “Adjusting Sidebar Minimum Width”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”Most browsers have a fixed minimum sidebar width of 360px, which is a browser limitation that extensions cannot modify.
Exception
Section titled “Exception”Vivaldi Browser allows adjustment to smaller widths, providing users with more flexibility.
Solutions
Section titled “Solutions”If you have a small screen and the sidebar takes up too much space, we recommend:
- Use Popup Mode: Open tab management interface in popup form via keyboard shortcuts
- Use Web Sidebar Mode: Embed sidebar within web pages
Screen Settings Optimization
Section titled “Screen Settings Optimization”To improve your experience, you can consider adjusting screen resolution:
Windows Users
Mac Users
Display Scaling Adjustment
Section titled “Display Scaling Adjustment”You can also adjust display scaling:
- Higher scaling: Interface elements become larger, sidebar occupies more space
- Lower scaling: Can display more content, but elements become smaller
Please choose settings that suit your reading comfort.
Hiding Top Tab Bar
Section titled “Hiding Top Tab Bar”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”Most browsers cannot hide the top tab bar, which is a browser security and design limitation that extensions cannot modify.
Solution
Section titled “Solution”If you need the ability to hide top tabs, consider using Vivaldi Browser, which provides more interface customization options.
Auto-Opening Sidebar on Browser Startup
Section titled “Auto-Opening Sidebar on Browser Startup”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”Sidebar activation requires user activation, meaning it must be opened through user interaction (such as clicking an icon or using keyboard shortcuts).
Technical Reason
Section titled “Technical Reason”This is a browser security mechanism to prevent extensions from automatically opening interface elements without user knowledge.
Solution
Section titled “Solution”We recommend setting convenient keyboard shortcuts for quick sidebar access.
Mouse Hover Auto-Expand Sidebar
Section titled “Mouse Hover Auto-Expand Sidebar”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”Currently does not support auto-expanding sidebar when hovering mouse at browser edge.
Technical Reasons
Section titled “Technical Reasons”- Browsers do not provide corresponding API interfaces
- Mouse movement does not trigger user activation events, so cannot be used to control sidebar display and hiding
Solution
Section titled “Solution”Use keyboard shortcuts or click the extension icon to control sidebar display.
Auto-Matching Chrome Theme Colors
Section titled “Auto-Matching Chrome Theme Colors”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”Browser theme systems do not provide APIs to access current theme color information.
Technical Reason
Section titled “Technical Reason”Browsers do not allow extensions to directly access theme color data for security and privacy considerations.
Solution
Section titled “Solution”Use VertiTab’s rich built-in theme library, or create custom themes to match your preferred color schemes.
Sidebar Position Restrictions
Section titled “Sidebar Position Restrictions”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”Some browsers (such as Microsoft Edge) cannot modify sidebar position and default to right side only.
Solution
Section titled “Solution”Chrome Users can modify sidebar position through:
- Visit
chrome://settings/appearance - Find sidebar position option in appearance settings
- Select left or right side position
Search Box Focus Issue
Section titled “Search Box Focus Issue”Browser Limitation
Section titled “Browser Limitation”When sidebar is activated, focus remains on the current page, and search box cannot automatically gain focus.
Technical Reason
Section titled “Technical Reason”This is a browser security mechanism to prevent extensions from forcibly stealing page focus.
Solutions
Section titled “Solutions”- Use different keyboard shortcuts to open Popup Mode
- Popup mode can properly gain focus, providing better search experience
Vivaldi Grouping Crash
Section titled “Vivaldi Grouping Crash”Issue Description
Section titled “Issue Description”In newer versions of Vivaldi browser, creating tab groups may cause crashes.
Issue Cause
Section titled “Issue Cause”This is a known bug in Vivaldi browser, not an issue with VertiTab extension.
Solutions
Section titled “Solutions”- We have reported this issue to the Vivaldi development team
- Please wait for Vivaldi browser’s fix update
- Before the fix, we recommend temporarily avoiding group functionality in Vivaldi
Summary
Section titled “Summary”Despite these technical limitations, VertiTab still provides rich tab management functionality. We recommend:
- Understand your browser’s characteristics and choose the most suitable feature combinations
- Try different usage modes (sidebar, popup, web mode)
- Adjust related settings based on screen size and usage habits
- Stay updated with extension updates - we continuously improve functionality within browser API limitations
