Extension Limitations

The following are functions that VertiTab extension cannot implement due to browser limitations. Understanding these limitations will help you better use the extension and choose appropriate alternatives.

Most browsers have a fixed minimum sidebar width of 360px, which is a browser limitation that extensions cannot modify.

Vivaldi Browser allows adjustment to smaller widths, providing users with more flexibility.

If you have a small screen and the sidebar takes up too much space, we recommend:

  1. Use Popup Mode: Open tab management interface in popup form via keyboard shortcuts
  2. Use Web Sidebar Mode: Embed sidebar within web pages

To improve your experience, you can consider adjusting screen resolution:

Windows Users

Mac Users

You can also adjust display scaling:

  • Higher scaling: Interface elements become larger, sidebar occupies more space
  • Lower scaling: Can display more content, but elements become smaller

Please choose settings that suit your reading comfort.

Most browsers cannot hide the top tab bar, which is a browser security and design limitation that extensions cannot modify.

If you need the ability to hide top tabs, consider using Vivaldi Browser, which provides more interface customization options.

Sidebar activation requires user activation, meaning it must be opened through user interaction (such as clicking an icon or using keyboard shortcuts).

This is a browser security mechanism to prevent extensions from automatically opening interface elements without user knowledge.

We recommend setting convenient keyboard shortcuts for quick sidebar access.

Currently does not support auto-expanding sidebar when hovering mouse at browser edge.

  1. Browsers do not provide corresponding API interfaces
  2. Mouse movement does not trigger user activation events, so cannot be used to control sidebar display and hiding

Use keyboard shortcuts or click the extension icon to control sidebar display.

Browser theme systems do not provide APIs to access current theme color information.

Browsers do not allow extensions to directly access theme color data for security and privacy considerations.

Use VertiTab’s rich built-in theme library, or create custom themes to match your preferred color schemes.

Some browsers (such as Microsoft Edge) cannot modify sidebar position and default to right side only.

Chrome Users can modify sidebar position through:

  1. Visit chrome://settings/appearance
  2. Find sidebar position option in appearance settings
  3. Select left or right side position

When sidebar is activated, focus remains on the current page, and search box cannot automatically gain focus.

This is a browser security mechanism to prevent extensions from forcibly stealing page focus.

  • Use different keyboard shortcuts to open Popup Mode
  • Popup mode can properly gain focus, providing better search experience

In newer versions of Vivaldi browser, creating tab groups may cause crashes.

This is a known bug in Vivaldi browser, not an issue with VertiTab extension.

  • We have reported this issue to the Vivaldi development team
  • Please wait for Vivaldi browser’s fix update
  • Before the fix, we recommend temporarily avoiding group functionality in Vivaldi

Despite these technical limitations, VertiTab still provides rich tab management functionality. We recommend:

  1. Understand your browser’s characteristics and choose the most suitable feature combinations
  2. Try different usage modes (sidebar, popup, web mode)
  3. Adjust related settings based on screen size and usage habits
  4. Stay updated with extension updates - we continuously improve functionality within browser API limitations
